Meta Confirms WhatsApp Zero-Click Attack on Activists

WHATSAPP ZERO-CLICK ATTACK
In January 2025, Meta confirmed a terrifying evolution in mobile spyware. A sophisticated “zero-click” attack, leveraging a malware variant known as “Graphite,” successfully compromised the devices of roughly 90 high-risk individuals, including journalists and political activists.
Unlike traditional phishing, zero-click attacks require no interaction from the user. A simple missed call or an unseen message can silently install the payload. This breach reignited global debates on the proliferation of commercial spyware and the urgent need for enhanced end-to-end encryption protocols on widely used communication platforms.
